The road from Lohaghat which brings you to Mount Abbot takes you further to PITHORAGARH, "the little Kashmir of Kumaon" but just after leaving Mount Abbot(10km), the road to your left takes you to another heavenly Himalayan wonder-CHAUKORI, a small but an unforgettable hill station at a height of more than 7000 ft !!So let's go to first to PITHORAGARHPithoragarh at the height of 1650 meter above sea level, the eastern most district of Kumaon in Uttarakhand is bordered by Tibet on the north and Nepal on the east. The town is situated in a small valley 2 Km by 5 Km. Popularly known as the Soar Valley, it lies at the center of four hills - Chandak, Dhwaj, Thal Kedar and Kundar. This lesser known part of Kumaon is very picturesque and often referred to as ‘Mini Kashmir’.
Pithoragarh is not only to enjoy natural beauty but also a chance to try various adventure sports, such as white river rafting, hang-gliding and skiing. So whether you want to spend a holiday close to nature or have the time of your life it leaves a lasting impact on your mind!
Pithoragarh was once a stronghold of the Chand Rajas, and the temples and ruined fort bear witness to their rule. The town lay on the old trade route to Tibet and is still en route the spiritual and sacred trail to Mount Kailash and Lake Mansarovar.
Sites to Visit
While you are at a tour of Pithoragarh, you can check out a number of lakes around Pithoragarh. There are two of them which are quite famous, one of them being Jolingkong and the other one being Anchherital. While the former is at a height of 4,634 meters, the latter is situated at an altitude of 3,658 meters. The district is dotted all over with many old temples that you visit. There is a shrine at Purnagiri, which is only 20 kms from Tanakpur, and there is another Sikh shrine near Lohaghat called Ritha Sahib. According to a belief, Guru Nanak touched the bitter ritha and it turned sweet after his touch.
A tour to the White Manu Temple for your spiritual journey is also recommended if you are in Pithoragarh. It is dedicated to the Goddess, who on invocation brings rain thus good fortune to the mountains.

You can enjoy rafting and canoeing at places near to Pithoragarh. There are also possibilities for hang-gliding and other adventure sports. Khaliya Top and Batulidhar are perfect was skiing and other sports. Fishing can be enjoyed at the rivers in the district.
