Why should you witness this incredible snake boat race?The 100-120 feet long canoes made of a forest wood locally called "Aanjili thadi" carrying 90- 110 rowers which moves like a snake through the channels (hence the name), is an eye catching sight for any tourist. The snake boat or '
chundan vallam' ploughs through one of the most scenic lake's waters, gaily decorated with flags and silk parasols. Traditionally, these snake boats were used in battle and measure between 60 to 65 meters.

During the race, each snake boat has 95 oarsmen, five
'amarakkar' or controllers, and ten '
nilakkar' or cheerleaders.
Vanchipattu, or songs with very catchy beats are sung by about ten singers on board, keep the boatmen's spirits high!

Alappuzha which is a part of great and the most picturesque
Vembanad lake. This mighty lake is the longest lake in India and the largest lake in the state of Kerala.The

Dos and Dont’s for attending Nehru Trophy Boat Race- Please check the tickets for the authorized seal of the committee and serial number. Authorized counters can be identified with banners, having logo of NTBR.
- Try to reach Alappuzha by 9 AM
- The committee arranges separate boats for the tourists and ticket holders to reach the race area.
- The ticket holders must reach the specially arranged boat jetty by 11 am, for catching the boat.
- Try to bring food items and water and can be taken to the venue.
- Occupy your seats by 12.00 noon.
- Vehicles can be parked in Municipal Stadium north of Zillah court Bridge.
- This facility will available only up to 11 am.
- Less luggage more comfort
- Show your tickets at the entrance of the boat jetty and also at the entrance of the pavilion.

- Do not purchase complimentary passes by paying cash
- Do not bring any explosive items and dangerous electronic devices
- Smoking is not allowed in the pavilion
