Mouth Watering Rajasthani cuisine! |
We were staying at Choki Dhani Resort, Jaipur, an awesome place to taste the flavor of Rajasthan. I think this was one of the best resort in Jaipur embracing the true culture of Rajasthan. The resort involved the destiny to feel and groom in the traditions of Jaipur which includes folk dances, cuisines and lifestyle of typical Rajasthani people. It was so awesome like being raped again and again and enjoying it!
Next day we left early in the morning for a now a ruined ancient village Abhaneri where even today hidden was a world's ancient archaeological wonder "Chand Baori".
We spent the entire day climbing down and then up the stairs and were truly amazed! A bit of shame of ignorance being an Indian and unaware of this magnificent wonder!
Chand Baori
Visiting Rajasthan for me had always been like stepping back in time. Besides the stunning palaces and forts, I realized it has this gorgeous landmarks like Chand Baori. It is known as the oldest step well in the area and it is classified as one of the biggest in the entire world.
Abhaneri is a small village of the Dausa district in northern Rajasthan; it is located 95km from Jaipur, towards the Jaipur-Agra highway. The present name of the village, 'Abhaneri', is believed to
be a mispronunciation of 'Abha Nagri' or the 'city of brightness'. This ancient village in Rajasthan is renowned for its post-Gupta or early medieval monuments, Chand Baori and Harshat Mata temple. Though the village is in ruins now, some stray traveling freaks like us who stumble upon the village, are amazed to see this hidden wonder-Chand Baori, one of the most overlooked landmarks in the country.
Step wells are built with steps on the sides to allow people to easily reach the water below. Chand Baori is shaped similar to a square, measuring 13 stories and it is roughly 100 feet deep. The stair groupings look like an abundance of small pyramids. The well serves as an intricate, artistic and geometric structure.
The inner walls of the well contain a total of 3,500 steps, which are perfectly lined. Three walls of the structure contain the steps, while the fourth is home to several pavilions built on top of one another. Constructed in 800 AD, it has served as a location for films such as The Fall and The Dark Knight Rises.
The state of Rajasthan is extremely arid, and the intent and final structure of Chand Baori was intended to conserve as much water as possible. At the bottom of the well, the air remains 5-6
degrees cooler than at the surface, and Chand Baori was used as a community gathering place for locals during periods of intense heat
